The UCT Legacy Society will visit Durban and Bloemfontein this May, facilitating discussions between the university and key stakeholders, including alumni, donors and friends of the institution.

UCT in Durban

UCT Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Transformation, Professor Loretta Feris, will visit Durban as part of the ongoing engagement programme, which takes place under the banner of the university’s Development and Alumni Department (DAD). 

The Durban cocktail event takes place at the Protea Hotel, Umhlanga Ridge, on Friday 17 May 2019 at 17:30.

The event is an opportunity for stakeholders - including UCT’s alumni, corporate representatives and friends of the institution - to engage with Professor Feris and gain an understanding of the latest developments at UCT. Professor Feris will focus on developments in transformation and the vision for transformation going forward.

"Transformation is an evolving process; there is no silver bullet and the journey of transformation is a life-long commitment," said Feris. "What is important is that we commit ourselves to this journey. As such. at UCT we constantly re-evaluate and adapt our policies, processes and actions to ensure that UCT is responsive to the current academic, social and economic realites of staff and students." UCT in Bloemfontein

The UCT Legacy Society will host a similar event in Bloemfontein on 28 May 2019 at 17:30. The cocktail function takes place at the Protea Hotel, Bloemfontein, on Nelson Mandela Drive.

Guest speaker, Judge Dennis Davis, will address the topic of Higher Education for a Democratic Society.

Fahim Docrat, who manages the Legacy Society and legacy portfolio in DAD, said: “UCT is very much an engaged institution and very aware of the challenges but also the immense opportunities in South Africa. Critical to our vision for the future is an approach of consultation and listening to feedback from our alumni and associates. These visits are about sharing updates but also about receiving feedback and incorporating what we hear into our strategy for the university.”
