The University of Cape Town’s (UCT) inaugural 2025 Golf Day series teed off at The Club at Steyn City in Johannesburg on the 28th of August. The event successfully brought together corporate partners and supporters, combining a day of golf with a focus on fundraising for key university initiatives.

The Johannesburg event set a positive tone for the series, creating a platform for industry leaders to engage with UCT’s mission. The day was marked by a shared commitment to supporting educational development.

The Architect of the Event: Khaya Jack

The event was coordinated by Khaya Jack, Manager: Corporate Fundraising at UCT’s Development and Alumni Department (DAD). Jack, a golfer himself, curated the tournament to strike a balance between competitive play and a clear philanthropic focus, ensuring that the primary goal of supporting student opportunities remained central.

Fundraising Outcomes and Goals

The Johannesburg event raised R480,215.27. These funds will directly support two key projects:

The 100UP project, which provides academic and social support to 300 learners from underserved communities each year, guiding them toward higher education.

UCT’s Disability Service, which works to ensure an accessible and inclusive environment for students and staff with disabilities.

The overall goal for the golf day series is R1 million. The success in Johannesburg provides a strong foundation for the upcoming event in Cape Town.

As Vice-Chancellor Professor Mosa Moshabela stated: “At the University of Cape Town, we believe that talent is fairly distributed—but opportunity is not.” This golf series is a direct effort to address that imbalance. To view the Vice-Chancellor's message click here

Your Opportunity in Cape Town: Be Part of Something Impactful

The Cape Town event is your chance to contribute to this meaningful initiative. The 2025 UCT Golf Day series will conclude on Friday, 28 November 2025, at the Steenberg Golf Estate, with a tee-off time of 11:30.

Expanding Our Impact: Introducing the Unlocking Futures Bursary

Funds raised at the Cape Town event will also support a third critical initiative: The Unlocking Futures Bursary. This fund is dedicated to student debt relief, providing crucial financial assistance to help high-achieving students from challenging economic backgrounds overcome the barrier of historic debt. This enables them to register for the academic year, continue their studies, and graduate. More information on UCT's student relief efforts can be found here.

This expanded focus underscores precisely why these events and meeting our fundraising goal are so important. It is about removing financial obstacles and ensuring that talented students can complete their education and contribute to society.

We now extend a special invitation to our Cape Town community to join us in this effort. Your local support can make a direct difference in the lives of students at our home institution.

This is more than a golf day; it is an opportunity to be part of a collective effort that has a direct, tangible impact on expanding access to education and building a more equitable future.
